GetFit YOGA

YogaThe word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word “Yuj” meaning to yoke, join or unite. Yoga is best known as a set of physical practices that include gentle stretches, breathing practices, and progressive deep relaxation. In practice, yoga is an applied science of the mind and body. Practice and study of it help to bring about a natural balance of body and mind in which the state of health can manifest itself. Yoga itself does not create health; rather, it creates an inner awareness and peace that opens one to live in health and wholeness.

Basically, yoga teaches that a healthy person is a harmoniously integrated unit of body, mind and spirit. Therefore, good health requires a simple, natural diet, exercise, a serene and untroubled mind and the awareness that man's deepest self is united with the spirit of God. As a result, to many devotees, yoga becomes a philosophy that offers instruction and insight into every aspect of life: the spiritual, the mental and the physical. Of course, because it is all-encompassing, people who want to pick and choose from its smorgasbord can do so without being disappointed. Yoga is equally satisfying as a physical therapy alone.

GetFit has joined with Innerworks to create Innerworks Yoga which offers a variety of yoga classes including Yoga Basics, Level 1-2 Yoga, Hot Flow Yoga and Restorative Yoga. To those who are not familiar with Hot Flow Yoga, these classes are held in a studio that is heated to 85-90 degrees. The class has its foundation in vinyasa and is designed to heal, detoxify and exhilarate the body and mind with emphasis on movement, balance, strength and intention. This class is also set to great music. Please check out other class descriptions at www.innerworks.org under the yoga tab.

Innerworks Yoga honors the roots of yoga. We do not impose any religious views. We emphasize breathing to connect the body and mind. Our role is to guide students to make their practice their own.

Private Yoga Sessions For Couples

Our lives are so busy and stressful that we often forget to take time out to simply relax. Quality time with that special someone in your life is often the first thing that is neglected. Like anything else in your life, your relationship needs care and attention to grow.

Yoga is an incredibly rewarding way to spend time with your loved one. It’s an age-old path to inner peace and wisdom that originated in India over five thousand years ago. It is revered as a way to relax the body, open the mind, and stay healthy. When you stretch with your partner, your bodies melt each other’s tightness and tension. Simply by staying present, moment by moment, and breathing in unison, a loving connection blossoms.
Whether your relationship is new or old, a private yoga session for you and your partner will renew your connection and reinvigorate your life.

Top 10 Reasons to Try Yoga

  1. STRESS RELIEF:
Yoga reduces the physical effects of stress on the body by encouraging relaxation and lowering the levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Related benefits include lowering blood pressure and heart rate, improving digestion and boosting the immune system as well as easing symptoms of conditions such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, asthma and insomnia.
  2. PAIN RELIEF:
Yoga can ease pain. Studies have demonstrated that practicing Yoga asanas (postures), meditation or a combination of the two, reduced pain for people with conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, auto-immune diseases and hypertension as well as arthritis, back and neck pain and other chronic conditions.
  3. BETTER BREATHING:
Yoga teaches people to take slower, deeper breaths. This helps to improve lung function and trigger the body’s relaxation response.
  4. FLEXIBILITY:
Yoga helps to improve flexibility and mobility, increasing range of movement and reducing aches and pains.
  5. INCREASED STRENGTH:
Yoga asanas (postures) use every muscle in the body, helping to increase strength literally from head to toe. Yoga also helps to relieve muscular tension.
  6. WEIGHT MANAGEMENT:
Yoga (even less vigorous styles) can aid weight control efforts by reducing the cortisol levels as well as by burning excess calories and reducing stress. Yoga also encourages healthy eating habits and provides a heightened sense of well being and self-esteem.
  7. IMPROVED CIRCULATION:
Yoga helps to improve circulation and, as a result of various poses, more efficiently moves oxygenated blood to the body’s cells.
  8. CARDIOVASCULAR CONDITIONING:
Even gentle yoga practice can provide cardiovascular benefits by lowering resting heart rate, increasing endurance and improving oxygen uptake during exercise.
  9. BETTER BODY ALIGNMENT:
Yoga helps to improve body alignment, resulting in better posture and helping to relieve back, neck, joint and muscle problems.
  10. FOCUS ON THE PRESENT:
Yoga helps us to focus on the present, to become more aware and to help create mind body health. It opens the way to improved coordination, reaction time and memory.
